Our Partners
disAbilityNavigator is operated by SeniorNavigator.org, a 501c3 not-for-profit, free public service for Virginians. The organizations listed below provide invaluable expertise and assistance related to understanding disability information and services in Fairfax County, Northern Virginia, and the Commonwealth. Their partnership, along with the ideas and advice of almost one hundred Northern Virginia residents led to the development of this website. A critical challenge in Fairfax County is to meet the long term care needs of the growing population adults with disabilities and elderly persons. Many issues contribute to this challenge, such as increasing cultural diversity, a critical shortage of available caregivers in the home and in the community, new advances in medical technologies, and a general lack of long-term care insurance coverage. Fairfax County, through the Fairfax Incentive Fund, supports initiatives disAbilityNavigator and other projects that will:
- increase public awareness
- connect people to services
- promote independent, supportive living, or
- improve and expand the long-term care workforce

The mission of the Fairfax Area Disability Services Board (FA-DSB) is to include people with disabilities into mainstream community life by identifying, communicating, and advocating their diverse CAPABILITIES and needs to state and local governments and the private sector; and to help and provide resources to meet the needs of persons with physical and sensory disabilities.

Fairfax Long Term Care Coordinating Council provides community leadership to promote and assure an accessible, affordable integrated and dynamic state-of-the-art collaborative system, enabling seniors and adults with disabilities to live independently in the community of their choice and to support the needs of their families, caregivers and service providers.
The LTCCC seeks to: provide leadership and serve as a catalyst in the implementation of the Long Term Care Strategic Plan to educate funders and policy makers on long term care needs and advocate for solutions; work closely with CareFaxLTC; the private, non-profit organization created to facilitate the implementation of the Strategic Plan and to link people and organizations in strategic partnerships to strengthen the LTC system; and to provide a mechanism for government agencies, non-profits, for-profits, educational institutions and businesses to develop a shared vision for LTC and to enhance service delivery.
The LTCCC is a citizen body with up to 46 members from agencies, businesses and boards and commissions appointed by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Members include representatives of the Commission on Aging, Community Services Board, Disability Services Board and the Health Care Advisory Board, among others, to enhance communication, strengthen partnerships and avoid duplication in the establishment of priorities and services.

The Arc of Northern Virginia is known as a leader in providing effective advocacy and indispensable direct services for families, children and adults living with intellectual and developmental disabilities to enable full, welcoming community participation. The Arc provides:
- Advocacy
- Developmental Disability Medicaid Waiver services
- Education, Information and Referral
- Guardianship program
- Personal Support Trusts

ENDependence Center of Northern Virginia (ECNV) is a community-based resource and advocacy center which is managed by and for people with disabilities.
ECNV promotes independent living (IL) philosophy and equal access for all persons with disabilities. Like the nearly 400 centers for independent living (CIL's) across the country, ECNV grew from local disability rights and self-help movements. ENCV’s philosophy is one of consumer control and peer-to-peer relationships to empower people with physical, mental, cognitive and sensory disabilities to direct their own lives.

The Kellar Institute for Human DisAbilities (KIHD) is an interdisciplinary campus based organization that focuses on the mission statement,"improving the lives and productivity of persons with disabilities." KIHd combines the resources of George Mason University (GMU) with local, state, regional, national, public, and private sector agencies and organizations to develop products, services, and programs for persons with disabilities.

The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) is a state agency based in Richmond, Virginia with branch offices in Fairfax and Vienna. DRPT is responsible for rail, public transportation and commuter services initiatives throughout Virginia. DRPT serves as a strong advocate, an expert source of information and research, and a funding partner for these programs in Virginia. DRPT also represents the Commonwealth’s rail, public transportation and commuter services interests at the local, state, and national levels.
DRPT and SeniorNavigator/disAbilityNavigator are currently working together to develop and maintain an inventory of complementary paratransit services in the Commonwealth. Information is currently being developed for SeniorNavigator’s website, DRPT’s website and any other appropriate sites to assist ADA certified visitors in accessing paratransit services.
