Who We Are

The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program provides eligible families with a monthly cash payment to meet basic needs.  Participants may be provided with services such as job skills training, work experience, job readiness training, child care assistance, transportation, and other work related expenses. There must be an eligible child in the home.  An eligible child must: Be under age 18, or will graduate from high school before the age of 19; and Attend school regularly if between the ages of 5 and 18; and Live with a parent or other relative; and Be a U.S. citizen or eligible immigrant.

Additional financial and non-financial requirements also apply.

You can apply for Benefit Programs online at CommonHelp or by telephone by calling 1-855-635-4370.

The TANF program benefits are limited to 60 months in a lifetime if the parent, or the non-parent caretaker, is included in the assistance grant.  There is a strict work requirement and a social contract that sets out the responsibilities and expectations between TANF recipients and the local agency.  All factors of eligibility must be verified, usually through documents obtained from the applicants.
